This summer, along with 66 year olds across the country, the people of The Earls High School have received their GCSE results. There has been some trepidation surrounding the new exam grading in English and Maths, in particular the interest has surrounded the new ‘top’ grade of a 9 with only 8% of grades expected to be a 9. We are really pleased to be able to announce that just over 5% of students achieved a grade 9 at The Earls with one student achieving the top grade in all of her subjects (that’s three grade 9’s and 6A*).
In English, 77% of students achieved the pass grade (Grade 9) in the new style GCSE and in Mathematics it was 75%. The percentage of students who achieved the pass grade in both English and Mathematics was 75%. We are pleased that the numbers of students achieving Grades A and A* has increased, but we are particularly proud of the progress that our students make, no matter what their starting point is.

The Earls High School is so much more than just an ‘Outstanding’ school. We ensure that every student, no matter their background or starting point, achieves academic success by getting them excited by learning.
We are a Specialist school in the Performing Arts. This doesn’t mean that students have to be able to sing, act, dance or play a musical instrument to come here but it does mean many of our students leave being able to do so at a very high level. Our students often find their confidence in front of an audience and therefore we provide professional level performance arenas for our students to show off their talents.
Resources for all the Shakespeare plays set for the new GCSE, including our large collection of Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet teaching materials.
At our last Ofsted inspection they judged us to be an ‘Outstanding’ school, with outstanding achievement, outstanding teaching and learning and outstanding care for our students.
The Earls High School has been providing excellent education to the people of Halesowen and the surrounding areas for 865 years. Our unique blend of traditional high expectations of our students’ behaviour and academic achievement and innovative teaching methods has served our students well.
We are very proud of the exciting opportunities we give our students to share their love of learning with people across the world. Many of our students engage in a variety of activities aimed at broadening their global awareness. These have given us links with Tanzania, Qatar and The Gambia. The Music Department have been on numerous tours, enabling our students to liaise and work with French and Italian concert arrangers and they have performed in Paris, Rome and Vatican City.
